Visit to Schools and Vocational Centre of OVC Beneficiaries in Ado-Ekiti and Ogun State.

On December 10, 2024, GSK Initiative team led by the Executive Director/ President Mr. Opeyemi Olajide Olowookere, paid a courtesy visit to schools and vocational centers in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State also on the 9th January 2025 in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The visit aimed to monitor the progress of the organization’s Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) beneficiaries.

The team first stop was at Saint Moses Nursery and Primary School, where they met with Assistant Head Mistress Mrs. Fagbohun and other teachers. The Executive Director interacted with the beneficiaries, Ajise Yemi (Primary 3) and Talabi Alaba (Primary 6), and their teachers. The ED pledged to donate furniture for two classes and do the flooring of one classroom.

The team then visited United Secondary School in Ilawe-Ekiti, where we met with the school principal, vice principal, and teachers. They also met with Ajakaiye Iyabo, an OVC beneficiary sponsored by the organization since primary school, now in SSS1.

GSK Initiative also visited the vocational center of her OVC beneficiary Modupe Salami, who is learning hairdressing, facial beautification, and headgear. Mrs. Bose, Modupe’s supervisor, praised Modupe’s progress, and the Executive Director expressed his satisfaction.

The team visited Mary Hill Secondary School, Oke Ila, Ado-Ekiti, and met with Principal Mr. Olodun and other teachers. They also met with Oluwasesan Precious, an OVC beneficiary under the organization’s scholarship program. The Executive Director pledged 10 educational scholarships for junior to senior classes and JAMB registration forms for three students with good W.A.E.C results.

The team visited Christ Anointed Nursery and Primary School, where the team met with OVC beneficiaries Oke Goodness and Oke Queen. Head Mistress Mrs. Oyeleye Olubumi requested assistance for other children in the school who are in need of educational support due to economic difficulties. The Executive Director pledged scholarships for five students and requested a list of those in need.

During the visit, the Executive Director also interacted with Oke Goodness and Oke Queen’s class teachers, Mrs. Okoli Oluwatosin and Mrs. Onigbede. He encouraged the teachers to support the beneficiaries in improving their academic performances.

In Ogun State, the first school visited was Lisabi grammar school, Idi-aba, Abeokuta, the team went in company of Mrs. Amodu from ESS (Education Support Services) Department, and the representative of Zonal Education Officer Mrs. Awolesi O.S. The vice principal Mr. Adeolu Micheal received the team warmly since the Principal was not on seat, the class teacher Mrs Awolesi was sent for so also was the beneficiary of our scholarship, Ajeigbe Nimot in JSS1C sent for. The Executive Director Mr. Opeyemi Olajide Olowookere approved two full scholarships to vulnerable students in the school and he encouraged the vice Principal to ensure justice is done to the selected names.

The team proceeded to Premier Grammar School, Lafenwa, Abeokuta, the team went in company of zonal education office representative Mrs. Ogunfusi. The team met with the principal Mr. Oke David, vice principal and class teacher Mrs. Adekunbi. The principal appreciated the efforts of the organization and the Executive Director, Mr. Opeyemi Olajide Olowookere for all they do to ensure we have a peaceful society.

In his response, the Executive Director thanked the Principal for his words of encouragement and promised that with people like him, the organization has no choice but to do more interventions for the children of the less privileged in the society. He therefore approved 3 full scholarships for students from poor background but who are talented in the school to be selected by the school.

The team also visited the vocational center of her OVC beneficiary Rofiat Olaniyan, who is into fashion designing. Mrs. Ganiyat, Rofiat’s boss, gave the low down of Rofiat’s progress and she said in year 2025 Rofiat will be due for graduation.

The team also visited the vocational center of her beneficiary Olagunju Temitope who is also into fashion designing. Peejay Global, Tope’s boss gave brief appraisal of Tope’s progress and commitment to work, and the Executive Director expressed his satisfaction.

The team also visited the Abattoir at Akinolugbade where Fabunmi Ahmed is learning about sales and slaughtering of cows.

The chairman of the Abattoir spoke glowingly about the efforts Ahmed is putting into his training.

The Executive Director in his response thanked everyone who has contributed into the progress of Ahmed in his vocation and he prayed that they themselves will not be left stranded in life.
