GSKi WEEK ON END TO VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN: THE IMPACT OF VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

On August 20th 2024 which is the day 2 of our week long program. Global
Support for Kids Initiative (GSKi) Nigeria continued with our focus on ending
violence against children. The week-long event featured a series of public
awareness campaigns and visits to various vocational training centers where
some of our beneficiaries were enrolled.
The campaign reached the Ejigbo-Irona Axis in Ado Ekiti, as well as the
Akinolugbade abattoir in Abeokuta, Ogun State. GSKi staff and dedicated
volunteers engaged with children at these locations, emphasizing the importance
of recognizing and preventing various forms of abuse.

At the vocational centers, GSKi representatives met with some of the orphans and
vulnerable children (OVCs) to assess their progress and performances, we also
offered guidance on recognizing and responding to abuses. This hands-on
approach aimed to empower the children with practical skills while raising their
awareness of potential risks.
The initiative also extended its efforts to the abattoir, where both buyers and
sellers were educated on the dangers of child abuse. To further spread the
message, GSKi volunteers placed posters on roads and advertising boards in the
major roads of Ado Ekiti, Ekiti state ensuring that the critical message of
protecting children reached a broader audience.
We used the opportunity to address some of the bosses at those vocational
centers and some of the buyers at the abattoir at Akinolugbade area of Abeokuta,
Ogun state where we have some of our beneficiaries as a trainee.
The activities today were a build up on yesterday’s activities, since we felt there
was no better time to do our aggressive awareness campaign than now, more
importantly that children are on holidays and also a day set aside by south
western states of Nigeria as “Isese Day”.
