Our time is now—Our rights, Our Future
These years international day of the girl child, which Theme: OUR TIME IS NOW-OUR RIGHT, marks the 10th year anniversary when the UNITED NATION declares October 11th as a day to address the problem faced by girls and also encourage the empowerment of girls and the fulfillment of human rights. In These last 10 years, more focus has been on matters relating to girls among the Government, policy makers and as well the general public giving the girl child the opportunity for her voice to be heard globally.
Adolescent girls have the right to safety, education and a healthy life, during these critical crisis of climate change, COVID-19 and Humanitarian crisis. If the girl child is successfully assisted in the teens years of adolescent, she has the ability to change the world- as the empowered children of today will in turn become house hold leaders, employee, mentors, mothers and policymakers of tomorrow.
Girls are breaking boundaries and barriers posed by stereotypes and exclusion, including those directed at children with disabilities and those living in marginalized communities. As entrepreneurs, innovators and initiators of global movements, girls are creating a world that is relevant for them and future generations.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by world leaders in 2015, embody a roadmap for progress that is sustainable and leaves no one behind.
Achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment is integral to each of the 17 goals. Only by ensuring the rights of women and girls across all the goals will we get to justice and inclusion, economies that work for all, and sustaining our shared environment now and for future generations.
The girl child is ready to move forward and its time for us all to stand up with the girl child and invest in their future. OUR TIME IS NOW, OUR-RIGHT OUR FUTURE
