FROM SCANVENGING TO A SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD

AKINWUNMI AYOMIDE, will be successfully graduating to a professional barber with a heart of appreciation to GSK initiative for changing his life from a street boy to an expertise entrepreneur.

Over two years ago, in the area of lafenwa pedestrian bridge, Abeokuta Ogun state. AKINWUNMI AYOMIDE, a sixteen year old boy was sighted amidst other street children who were scavenging around the axis and joined them to participate in our field activities including moral talk, psychosocial activities and feeding which made ayomide felt very much among. GSK staff interacted with him this day to keep his records while we continue with more engagement in making him a priority.

Ayomide spent time in building trust in us before we could be able to get his full story. Nevertheless, he still hide his relatives whereabouts but continuous and relentless job was done in counselling session to shed more light on his path until year 2021, when he share with us his determination to learn a vocation trade in barbing aspect. GSK initiative take his view seriously by enrolling him so as to promote his interest while he started learning on the 27th of September 2021 at NEW LOOK BARBING SALON with all necessary bills being taken care of, by the organization. Proper monitoring and evaluation was made during this period, he also made us realize that he is an orphan, also give us the address to his relative’s location while Home tracing and integration was done by GSK INITIATIVE.

AKINWUNMI AYOMIDE’S graduation ceremony coming up on the 16th of December 2022 will be honored and blessed by all GSK INITIATIVE MEMBERS OF STAFF, HIS RELATIVES, AGENCIES WORKING FOR CHILD GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT, COMMUNITY ACTORS and other prominent personalities in the society.
