In his welcome speech, GSKi President/Executive Director, Mr. Opeyemi Olajide Olowookere, reminded attendees that children on the streets deserve protection, care, and support — not punishment or judgment. He emphasized that street children are not mere statistics but individuals with dreams, hopes, and potential. He called on all stakeholders to work together to protect these children, support their growth, and build a brighter future for them.
The guest speaker, Comrade Yinka Folarin, spoke passionately on the rights of children living on the streets. He advised the children to stay out of trouble and clearly outlined the legal consequences of breaking the law. During an interactive session, he encouraged them to engage in productive activities and urged them never to look down on themselves. He cited inspiring examples of individuals who once lived on the streets and have gone on to achieve great successes in life. He further urged the children to protect one another, be their brothers’ keepers, and know who to contact in times of emergency.

The representative from the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development assured the children that the government sees and hears them, and pledged that more initiatives would be implemented to improve their lives. He urged the children to cooperate with GSKi and the government, stressing that meaningful change requires willingness and participation from all sides.
Other invited guests encouraged the children and youths to stay away from troubles, maintain personal hygiene, avoid drugs, and refuse to let their street circumstances define their future. The children and youths actively participated in a question-and-answer session, which was ably handled by the guest speaker.
The event was both fun-filled and educational. The children were served drinks and snacks, enjoyed dancing, and were entertained by a live musical performance from one of GSKi’s beneficiaries — a talented musician. The children expressed heartfelt appreciation to the organization for its continued efforts on their behalf
