Drug abuse is the use illegal drugs or the use of prescription or over- the- counter drugs for purposes other than those for which they are meant to be used, or in excessive amount. Drug abuse may lead to social, physical, emotional and job related problems, it particularly impacts the brain and can also lead to other health issues such as kidney failure and heart problems. Drug abuse is a form of substance related disorder.

Drug abuse term is used for obsessive and excessive use of drugs, is a common problem this days. Regular use of drugs is damaging, it leads to addiction and causes behavioral changes, and it particularly impacts the brain also lead to other health issues. People usually take to drugs abuse in order to curb stress caused due to family issues, pressure at work, relationship problems, financial issues, feeling of emptiness but the street connected children involved in drug abuse because of the harsh weather condition, cold et al.

Drug abuse is a disorder characterized by excessive use of habit forming drugs, the illegal use of drugs which in turn leads to severe addictions and dependence with so many negative conclusions. It is a chronic illness with relapse rate similar to those of hypertension, diabetes, and asthma

Children are the source of hope and inspiration for the society, they have the right to be protected, supported and brought up in a positive environment. Unfortunately children do not only live in poverty but tens of millions of them around the world find themselves living or working on the street.

Street connected children often suffer from depression, anxiety & trauma, which lead to substance abuse and a risk of suicide. The stigma and social exclusion faced by them has a negative impact on their mental wellbeing. Common emotions they experience are anxiety, fear, depression, guilt, loneliness, confusion and anger. The children abuse drugs mainly due to peer influence with the ultimate objective of getting high to relief stress, group recognition, trusted by peers. Marijuana is the commonly abused drugs by the street children.

It is essential to understand that it can aggravate the problem rather than solve it. It is wise to stay away from it.
