GSK INITIATIVE NIGERIA 2023 WEEKDAY 4: VISITATION TO JUVENILE CORRECTIONAL HOMESTheme: Fostering Inclusion- Changing Community’s Perception towards Street Connected Children

Today Monday, August 21st, 2023, Global Support for Kids Initiative Nigeria (GSKI) staff in Ekiti & Ogun State continued their week-long activities on end to violence against children by visiting , the correctional homes at Ado- Ekiti , Ekiti State and Asero, Abeokuta , Ogun State.

Visitation to Juvenile Correctional Home as part of activity scheduled in celebrating GSKI Week 2023 was aimed at reaching out to the children in the home with words to motivate and encourage the children never to lose hope or give up on themselves and also to identify with the children in the home.

In presence at this visitation are GSKI staff, volunteers, Counsellor ( Mrs H.B Adeniyi and Child Protection Network Coordinator for Ogun state (Barrister Damola Lapite) were at Correctional Home Fayose Housing Estate , Afao Road, Ado- Ekiti and Correctional Home Asero, Abeokuta respectively.

On getting to the homes, GSKi staff and volunteer were warmly received by the staff at the correctional homes and was ushered to the where the children. The staff commence their activities, by introducing the organisation and her thematic area with the reason for the visitation, after which the staff handed over to the counsellor.

Mrs Adeniyi introduced herself and commence with her session with the children. In her talk with the children which Topic was titled ‘ DON’T LOSE HOPE’? she emphasize on the children not giving up on themselves and also advised them on what should occupy their minds, they were told never to allow their present condition limit them and that they should be determine and strive towards things that will make their lives better.

Finally, she advised the children on how not to end up making same mistake that brought them to the home in the first place and also advised them on turning a new leave once they are done serving their term.

After the session, the staff at the homes in both state Mr Opadare and Mr. Oluwatoyin Mejigbedu took the team around the premises which afforded the staff, the opportunity to see the situation of things at the homes.

All the food items, Laundry materials and disinfectants taken to the home were presented, and immediately one of the children was called forward to give vote of thanks not leaving the staff at home behind in extending their appreciation towards the organization kind gesture as the staff bid the children farewell.
