GSKi WEEK ON END TO VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN STORY ON NOVELTY MATCH

As part of the activities for GSKi Week 2024 which focused on ending violence against children, GSKi FC and Spartan FC squared off in an exciting football match on August 21st at Olomoore Playing Ground, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The match which kicked off at 8:30a.m was attended by various officials and staff of the initiative, adding a sense of importance to the occasion.

On this very day two matches were played. The kick off for the first match was 7:00am and that was between Golden Joker FC and Courageous FC which ended in penalty shoot out with Golden Joker FC triumphing while the match between GSKi FC and Spartan FC took off at exactly 9:00am

Having recently won the league and secured a spot in the Super 4 competition, GSKi FC was in high spirits. However, at about the 32nd   minutes of the first half, Spartan FC scored the opening goal, putting GSKi FC on the back foot as the half ended with the opposing team in the lead.

The second half presented an opportunity for GSKi FC to equalize when their number 4 was fouled, resulting in a penalty. Unfortunately, the chance slipped away as the ball sailed over the crossbar, leaving GSKi FC trailing behind.

The match concluded with a 1-0 victory for Spartan FC. With this outcome, GSKi FC is set to compete for third place in their next match against the loser of the subsequent game.

Beyond the competition, the match served as a powerful tool for building relationships and fostering bonds within the community. The GSKi FC, which comprises of youths at risk found in this experience not just exposure to the sport, but also a meaningful opportunity to connect with others and develop a stronger sense of belonging.
